Class Journal #1
Technology is used in education is commonplace, because humans learn better when the information or skills is presented in a variety of ways. Technology helps facilitate this. It makes it easier to vary the way you teach by way of digital versus traditional material, or audio versus visual material, or any combination thereof. Another influencer that we learned about in class today is standardized testing. Nowadays, standardized tests are administered on the computer, which means the students must be fluent enough in technology to where it won't hinder their performance.
I feel the most comfortable with the Learner skill from the ISTE standards. I really enjoy learning in any fashion, and I know that i am a quick learner and that it is one of my strengths. Its important to me because i feel that it is an integral part of being a teacher is learning all you can about the subjects you care about and want to share.
The one I need to work in is facilitating. I am very disorganized and work best if a plan or structure is given to me when teaching. In order to be a better teacher know that I need to be able to develop my own plans for teaching and also be able to enact them efficiently.
I think the "digital native" label is a strange way to describe it, but I do agree that different generations are going to use technology differently. The culture of different ages definitely impacts the use of any sort of tools of business or any field. For example, my ENC professor (pretty old guy) prints out our canvas assignments and makes notes and edits on the paper, then gives it back to us in the next class. I think that's really nice and I enjoy getting my notes back in pen, but I feel like a younger professor would probably just makes notes directly in canvas on the assignment page. I Definitely can see this happening with my students in the future because I don't love to use technology, like this newsletter assignment I can tell is going to make me really frustrated. But also, I would like to go into adult education, so we could possibly be in the same generation or even older. In this case, the differences in technology would mean I would need to speak their language a little more. For example being forgiving if they didn't look at my email or miss some part of my website. Anyway, I am glad to be learning about this topic so I can anticipate it in the future.
I definitely agree that technology can make things easier. Being familiar with technology can help as a student in this era. Nice post!
